Weight loss treatment options: Wegovy & Mounjaro

With the rising prevalence of obesity, medical weight loss treatments have become a trusted option for individuals struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.

At The Valley Pharmacy, we offer prescription weight loss injections that have been clinically proven to help patients lose significant weight when combined with lifestyle changes.

What Weight Loss Treatments Do We Offer?

We currently offer the following GLP-1 weight-loss medications:

  • Wegovy (Semaglutide) – A GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps control appetite, slow digestion, and reduce food cravings. Patients can lose up to 15% of their body weight with Wegovy.
  • Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) – A dual-acting GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist which enhances weight loss results. Studies show patients can lose up to 22.5% of their body weight, making it one of the most effective weight loss injections available.

Both medications are self-administered, once-weekly injections designed for long-term weight management.

Why losing weight matters

Being overweight or obese can have serious health implications, including:

  • Increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and high cholesterol
  • Greater likelihood of joint pain, mobility issues, and arthritis
  • Higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes
  • Increased risk of mental health challenges, including low self-esteem and depression

Losing even 5-10% of your body weight can significantly improve health markers, helping you feel more energetic, confident, and in control of your well-being.

Wegovy vs Mounjaro

If you’re exploring weight loss injections, you may have come across Wegovy and Mounjaro, two of the most popular weight management medications available today. Both treatments can help you achieve significant weight loss, but they work in different ways. Below, we break down the key differences between Wegovy (Semaglutide) vs. Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) to help you decide which might be best for your weight loss journey.

WEGOVY MOUNJARO
Active Ingredient Semaglutide Tirzepatide
How does it work? Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics a hormone called GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite, slows digestion, and reduces food cravings. Mounjaro is a dual-action GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, meaning it works on two hormones instead of one. This enhances weight loss results by further improving insulin regulation, metabolism, and appetite control.
How much weight can I lose? Studies show patients using Wegovy can lose up to 15% of their body weight over 12-18 months when combined with a calorie-controlled diet and exercise. Mounjaro has been found to be more effective, with users losing up to 22.5% of their body weight in the same period, making it one of the most powerful weight loss injections available.
How do I take it? Self-injected using a pre-filled Wegovy pen. Self-injected using a pre-filled Mounjaro pen.
When do I take it? Once a week, on the same day each week. Once a week, on the same day each week.

Is it prescription only? Yes, Wegovy is only available via a private prescription or through a pharmacy weight loss service. Yes, Mounjaro is also prescription-only and can be accessed through pharmacy weight loss programs.
How long do I take it for? As obesity is a chronic condition, weight loss injections like Wegovy are designed for long-term use to help maintain a healthy BMI. Mounjaro is also meant for long-term weight management, helping prevent weight regain after initial weight loss.
